A new suburban-urban model located within 2 blocks of goods and services in downtown Highland Park, metra trains to downtown Chicago and K-12 schools, walking is possible for all activities.  Use of the automobile is an option, not a requirement.  Perforated masonry walls provide privacy as well as ventilation for private courtyards.

The shell of the existing house and the surrounding garden walls were saved and a series of additions added.  By saving the existing house, we salvaged tons of materials that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill

Because there was no basement in the existing house, we decided to add a 3 car garage with added mezzanine storage, which also proves privacy from the commercial alley and an extra party room if the owners want to park the fancy cars on the street for a bit.
